The PALS Instructor Essentials Course teaches information needed to instruct AHA’s PALS classroom course and to conduct skills sessions for PALS eLearning courses. These courses include:
· HeartCode® PALS Part 1
This course covers planning and preparation for courses, instructing courses, conducting written exams and skills testing and keeping your PALS Instructor status current. It includes approximately 30 minutes of general information about instructing AHA courses, followed by course-specific information. Prior to taking this course, candidates must have a current course completion card in PALS. Candidates also must have aligned with an AHA PALS Training Center that is accepting new PALS Instructors. Following successful completion of the PALS Instructor Essentials Course, candidates also must:
· Attend the in-person, skills practice-driven, Faculty-led PALS Instructor Course
· Be monitored by Faculty teaching their first course
Upon successful completion of all steps, candidates receive a PALS Instructor card, valid for two years.
· Self-directed; available 24/7
· Certificate of completion available to print upon successful completion; certificate must be presented at the in person PALS Instructor Course
· Access to course content for 12 months following activation of course key
· Course takes approximately three and a half hours to complete
This course must be completed by candidates who wish to become AHA PALS Instructors.

Continuing Medical Education Accreditation - Physicians
The American Heart Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide
continuing medical education for physicians. The American Heart Association designates this enduring material for a maximum of 3.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Continuing Medical Education Accreditation – Physician Assistants
AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. Physician assistants may receive a maximum of 3.25 hours of Category I credit for completing this program.

The American Heart Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The maximum number of hours awarded for this CE activity is 3.00 contact hours.
