Compassion, expertise, and state-of-the-art technology come together to give all children the unique attention they deserve.
St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital is a premier 164 bed hospital committed to providing a full spectrum of services to support the health and well being of children.
After using non interactive manikins to train staff in neonatal emergencies, Saint Joseph’s have recently purchased SimNewB (neonatal patient simulator) to further enhance required learning outcomes that will better prepare their staff for critical neonatal events.
Betty Minton, RNC says, “SimNewB provides the hands on experience needed in a risk free manner that enhances their confidence and better prepares them for the real patient environment. It enhances the learners thinking about what their next steps need to be based on their individual assessments.”
Within the hospital, SimNewB is being used for multidisciplinary team training and the training of multiple response departments to improve communication between the teams that respond to critical events. SimNewB is also being used at associated rural affiliate hospitals as well as the SPIRIT Medical Transport system, where the challenges of transporting a compromised newborn can be addressed and prepared for to help improve survival rates.
Betty Minton concludes, “The staff is extremely excited about how SimNewB has been integrated into their program. The ultimate goal of utilizing SimNewB is to improve neonatal patient outcomes and the quality of care.”
