The American Heart Association
Over the past 10 years, the American Heart Association (AHA) and Laerdal have collaborated on a number of projects designed to help save lives through the global implementation of medical science and evidence-based educational products in Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). These include the development of HeartCode electronic learning programs, distribution of educational materials in a number of countries and, most recently, the development of self-directed learning CPR programs (CPR Anytime).
As a result of such activities, in July 2005 the AHA and Laerdal announced the establishment of the first ever strategic alliance between the AHA and a commercial organization, Laerdal. www.americanheart.org

American Academy of Pediatrics

The American Academy of Pediatrics is an organization of 60,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults. Learn more at http://www.aap.org.

Simulation Innovation Resource Center (SIRC)
The purpose of the Simulation Innovation and Resource Center (SIRC) project, a collaborative alliance between the NLN and Laerdal Medical, is “to develop a “community” of nurse educators who can effectively use simulation to promote and evaluate student learning and who dialogue with one another in an effort to advance simulation in nursing education.”

The project began in 2007 with a call for simulation experts; 169 nurse educators applied and nine were chosen.  They represented a variety of types of educational institutions in geographic locations around the country.  Led by the project director, and together with the international participants and the technical team, this group developed the various areas of the SIRC and the courses that prepare nurse educators to design, implement, and evaluate the use of simulations in nursing education . All of the funds from the purchase of the courses will be reinvested in the maintenance of the SIRC and development of new courses. The SIRC launched on June 12, 2008 with three online courses.  Another six debuted at the NLN’s Summit in San Antonio, September 17-20, 2008. Two additional courses became available in June, 2009. It also has an active user forum, examples of Simulation Centers worldwide, and upcoming Simulation Events calendar. Check it out at http://sirc.nln.org.

National League for Nursing
In 2003, The National League for Nursing (NLN) announced a new relationship with Laerdal to support vitally important nursing education research. Laerdal supported the NLN with a three-year grant to support a national, multi-site, multi-method project to develop and test models using simulation to promote student learning in nursing. Through this initiative, eight NLN member schools were selected as project sites to develop innovative uses of simulation in teaching nursing care of adults and children. Participating schools documented student outcomes of learning, specifically, the extent to which different simulation models affect students' critical thinking skills, level of self-confidence/anxiety, and knowledge. The result of this research is being disseminated in November of 2006 with a textbook of findings due to be developed by the new year. This relationship has now led to a more broad based alliance to help with the development of nurse educator faculty in simulation education methodology. The National League for Nursing is the only national organization that represents the nursing workforce at all levels of education and practice. www.nln.org
