The Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation and Stabilization Scenarios offer educators a simple and realistic method for teaching and assessing learners’ critical thinking and decision-making skills. These scenarios are created in accordance with the Neonatal Save 10% until December 31, 2009!Resuscitation Program (NRP) materials based on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care of the Neonate.

The Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation and Stabilization Scenarios contain twenty (20) scenarios. Fourteen (14) scenarios reflect special considerations in neonatal resuscitation following the guidelines as presented in the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 5th Edition. Six (6) stabilization scenarios, focus on the assessment and management of the critically ill newborn.

Each of the 20 scenarios includes learning objectives that reflect the knowledge and skills needed to effectively resuscitate and stabilize a newborn.

Gary M. Weiner, MD, FAAP, Clinical Associate Professor of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI and Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, believes that the scenarios afford opportunities to achieve real-time, hands-on clinical practice that is essential to delivering the best possible care for newborns. Dr. Weiner, a clinical reviewer of the product concluded, "This flexibility allows you to expand your simulations  beyond the delivery room while challenging both
novice and experienced neonatal care providers."

The scenarios are designed to promote:

• Teaching and testing

• Newborn assessment and clinical management

• Critical thinking

• Adherence to algorithms

• Effective team communication

• Student reflection and remediation through debriefing and discussion

The twenty (20) scenarios are all timed events that require learners to take critical actions in order to successfully complete the case. The scenarios are set in the delivery room, outside the delivery room, in the newborn nursery or in the neonatal intensive care unit, allowing for a variety of valuable experiences for learners. The scenarios are specifically developed for use with Laerdal SimNewB Standard or Advanced.

Pair these scenarios up with a day of training! Order Teaching Scenarios for SimNewB, a one day on-site class for up to 8 participants.
