Helping prepare for emergencies in infant patient care

Laerdal Solutions for Baby Healthcare Providers
Our paediatric products are designed to take a multi-disciplinary approach to provide important skills and team training for infant healthcare providers. Versatile for use in a variety of settings, they allow for flexible training programmes which can take place at different units in a hospital (e.g a birth centre) or at more advanced simulation centres.

About 10% of babies being born require assistance in some way. The implications of not receiving correct help can result in problems that last a lifetime or even death. The time you devote to learn the different skills necessary to treat these children and practise them in comprehensive team training, can improve the infant`s overall stability, safety and outcome (Kristine Karlsen, The S.T.A.B.L.E Program, 2006)

We believe patient simulation can make a difference
Simulation training is becoming more prevalent in healthcare education, owing to the growing amount of data supporting its use as a positive training adjunct to traditional medical training methods. Simulation has been widely assessed to be considered educationally effective, and at the same time complementary to patient safety initiatives relevant through the clinical training process.

Formal adoption of simulation in healthcare curricula is beginning to emerge. However, for its true value to be realised fully, there is a need for leaders and policy makers in healthcare - (based on the indications of existing data) - to integrate the benefits of simulation into healthcare curricula in a mandatory way.
