World Prematurity Day on November 17th

Preterm birth is the greatest contributor to infant death. About 1 in 10 babies are born too early in the United States each year. The earlier a baby is born, the higher the risk of death. Many babies born too soon may also face serious health challenges or life-long disabilities.

Laerdal supports National Prematurity Awareness Month and World Prematurity Day on November 17th to help raise awareness and by offering training solutions that enable healthcare professionals provide the best possible care for these most vulnerable of babies.

Premature Anne™ is a realistically proportioned 25 week preterm baby developed by Laerdal in collaboration with the American Academy of Pediatrics. Designed to facilitate training of healthcare professionals to initiate proper care and resuscitation during the first 10 minutes of life.

Pediatric safety and outcomes require competent healthcare providers who understand the special needs of newborns, especially preterm babies, and are able to respond in these most critical environments.

With a grade of "C," the United States has a long way to go in reducing our preterm birth rate. In the U.S., 1 in 10 babies is born too soon, and the preterm birth rate is higher than that of most high-income countries.
