Gail Rea

Gail B. Rea, PhD, RN, CNE
Assistant Dean, Pre-Licensure Program and Professor, Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College

Dr. Rea’s scholarship is related to integrating evidence-base practice into the Baccelaureate curriculum and point of care through a collaborative model between the School of Nursing, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and Siteman Cancer Institute. In addition, she has been a guiding force in the development of the Goldfarb Clinical Simulation Institute through integration of simulation into the BSN curriculum. Dr. Rea is one of the pioneer’s in the use of simulation in nursing education within the Saint Louis metropolitan area. Gail is a Certified Nurse Educator with years of teaching and administrative expertise.

Beth Haas

Beth Haas, MPH, CHES
Director, Clinical Simulation Institute, Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College

Beth coordinates simulation laboratory activities in collaboration with deans and faculty, and was instrumental in the designation of Laerdal’s “Center for Educational Excellence”. She is responsible for the general operations of the simulation laboratories, including development of policies and procedures, promotion of student acquisition of nursing knowledge and skills, and facilitating utilization of the Clinical Simulation Institute by outside groups. Haas has presented at multiple conferences and provides consultation to schools on best practices in simulation as well as the organizational structure needed to implement a successful simulation program.

Director Clinical Learning Strategies – BLS and ACLS Solutions

Linda was previously with Laerdal Medical Corporation in roles of sales an marketing, primarily related to the American Heart Association self directed learning products. Linda’s experience also includes critical care nursing and management of the Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehab Programs at the MCP/Hahnemann University Hospital System in Philadelphia. Linda holds a BS degree in Business Communications and a degree in Nursing.

Sharon Decker

Dr. Sharon Decker's research and scholarship is related to how simulation, as an innovative teaching learning strategy, facilitates the development of critical and reflective thinking skill. Dr. Decker has presented at multiple conferences and provided consultation for nursing schools through-out the United States related to the integration of simulation into various curricula. She has been the recipient of numerous grants to support her research and has been recognized multiple times for her excellence in teaching. A few of Dr. Decker’s many roles are Director of Clinical Simulations at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and board member of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning, and Society for Simulation in Healthcare.

Director of the Smart Hospital™ at the University of Texas at Arlington’s School of Nursing

Tiffany Holmes, D.C. has been working in simulation for almost 4 years. While at the University of Texas at Arlington, she has held the following roles with in the Smart Hospital™: Simulation Technician, Manager of the Smart Hospital and Director of the Smart Hospital. As a Doctor of Chiropractic, she brings to the roles not only knowledge of medicine but also the office administrator skills to direct the daily operations of the 13,000 square foot simulated Smart Hospital.

Tim Hardy

Tim Hardy

Tim Hardy entered the EMS profession in 1992 after completing fire school at College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas. Tim worked for Bryan Fire Department for 10 years as a Firefighter/Paramedic before he left to further his education and found a calling for teaching others. Tim is currently employed as an EMS Lab Coordinator for Blinn College and works with EMS, surgical technology and nursing students and faculty in the lab/simulation setting to ensure skill and critical thinking competencies.

Randy Johnson, Ph.D.
Chief Patient Safety Officer Baptist Health Associate Professor of Aviation College of Business Auburn University 

Dr. Randy Johnson brings over twenty years experience as a U.S. Army and Coast Guard aviator and MEDEVAC pilot to the field of patient safety and team training. His background and research interests are in patient safety, communications, Crew Resource Management (CRM), and human factors combine to create medical team training for healthcare professionals.

Judi Miller has served as Director of Organizational Development for Baptist Health since 2003. She participated in the creation and development of the Institute for Patient Safety and Medical Simulation and has served as Director since its inception. Judi has consulted with numerous organizations and community business leaders regarding the design, implementation and integration of simulation in education and training.

Developed, including design, renovation, equipment, purchase, and hiring center staff, two clinical simulation centers (CSC) located in Radford and Roanoke Virginia. Responsible for providing leadership in the introduction and the use of simulation technologies for six nursing schools in Southwest Virginia: Radford University, Jefferson College of Health Sciences, New River Community College, Patrick Henry Community College, Virginia Western Community College, and Wytheville Community College.

Oregon Health & Science University Simulation and Clinical Learning Center Lead Simulation Specialist

Mary Cato has been a simulation specialist at OHSU since 2004, and has worked with nursing students as well as other health care professionals utilizing simulation. She has a master’s degree in nursing education and has been teaching in both hospital and academic environments for over fifteen years. Mary has participated in research related to the development of clinical judgment in nursing students, and has written and presented on this topic. She is one of the authors of the NLN/Laerdal Simulation Innovation Resource Center. In addition, she has been active in training simulation specialists through her work with the Oregon Simulation Alliance (OSA).

Professor and Associate Dean for Research Director, Center for Nursing Research School of Nursing University of Texas at Arlington (Arlington, Texas)

Carolyn Cason is Professor and Associate Dean for Research, School of Nursing, The University of Texas at Arlington. She teaches in the PhD in Nursing program and has over 30 years of experience teaching in undergraduate and graduate nursing education. In 2004, she developed the model for the SMART HospitalTM (a virtual hospital in which high fidelity interactive manikins serve as patients).

Kristine Nelson

Kristine Nelson, RN, MN
Clinical Instructor, The University of Texas at Arlington School of Nursing

Kristine A. Nelson has been actively involved in the simulation education in her roles as a Pediatric Nursing Instructor and the Student Success Program Coordinator for the past four years. She has designed and implemented simulation scenarios for nursing students with SimBaby or Mega Code Kid as the “patient” and a standardized patient (actor) as the parent or grandparent. She has incorporated the use of MicroSim™ and Infant Virtual IV™ into course work for nursing students. She has participated in research related to the effectiveness of MicroSim™ as a nursing education approach for undergraduate students.

Dr. Leflore is an associate professor of Nursing at UT Arlington, School of Nursing (UTASON). She is also the Director of Pediatric, Acute Care Pediatric and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Programs at UTASON. She teaches courses in her two areas of expertise, pediatric and neonatal care. Dr. Leflore is a national expert on medical simulation and has won State and National awards for her innovative ways in which she incorporates technology into her teaching.

Amar Patel is the Manager of the Medical Simulation Center at WakeMed Health & Hospitals. Mr. Patel is responsible for integrating technology based educational programs to include human patient simulation, healthcare gaming, and hybrid education into regional educational programs. As a member of the Center for Patient Safety, Amar strives daily to make changes to processes in healthcare that will directly improve patient and provider safety.

Geoffrey Tobias Miller is the Associate Director of Research and Curriculum Development for the Division of Pre-hospital and Emergency Healthcare at the Michael S. Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education (GCRME), University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Geoff began his career in public safety 20 years ago. Previously, Geoff worked as a Paramedic Firefighter with Alachua County Fire Rescue before moving into Emergency Medical Services (EMS) education.

Darren Lacroix
Del Mar College

Darren Lacroix began his career serving honorably in the United States Army’s 509th Airborne Battalion. After leaving the service, he began a career with the Corpus Christi Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic lasting over 20 years. During that time, Mr. Lacroix also worked in various capacities at Del Mar College as an EMS instructor and has taught advanced level courses for over 24 years. His simulation experience began in the military with the MILES technology and he has grown into the field of simulation by direct experience. Recently, he helped plan, coordinate, and present at a successful Laerdal Mini-Sun at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. He enjoys a close working relationship at Del Mar College with the entire allied health care faculty and is involved in multi-disciplinary simulation experiences held at the college. He recently retired from the Corpus Christi Fire Department.

Bonnie Stegman, RN, MSN
Staff Development Educator

Bonnie Stegman RN, MSN is a staff development educator for St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis Missouri. She earned her ADN from St. Louis Community College, a Baccalaureate in Nursing Degree from Maryville University and a Masters in Nursing Degree from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. She is currently pursing a PhD in Education. She has been a RN for twenty seven years with her clinical background in emergency medicine. She is member of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), National Nursing in Staff Development Organization (NNSDO) and American Heart Association’s Emergency Cardiovascular Committee. She is responsible for continuing education for RN and Healthcare staff. She is an ACLS, BLS and PALS Instructor, ACLS National Faculty and PALS Regional Faculty. She is the System Administrator for the St. Anthony's Medical Center HealthStream’s Learning Management System (LMS). She develops authors and implements e-learning education for various system needs.
