The Simulation in Nursing Education Obstetric Scenario Set, in conjunction with the Laerdal SimMom Advanced Simulator, offers 12 realistic and challenging scenarios that focus on high-risk, low-frequency birth events. Preparing for these situations requires an effective team that possesses the knowledge and skills required to act quickly, decisively, and accurately for both the mother and child. The scenarios allow healthcare providers to prepare for emergencies such as shoulder dystocia, umbilical cord prolapse, and postpartum hemorrhage in a risk-free environment.
The scenario set consists of six (6) core scenarios that reflect basic assessment, safety and infection control, prevention of complications, and communication skills; and six complex scenarios that expand upon the basic scenarios. The complex scenarios are based on the same patient history, but require recognition and management of complications, advanced team collaboration and communication.
Blended Learning with Scenarios and vSim® for Nursing
The Simulation in Nursing Education – Obstetric Scenarios can be used alone or together with vSim® for Nursing Maternity or vSim® for Nursing Maternity and Pediatric (purchased separately). Used together the products form a blended learning program that includes scenarios for human patient simulators, virtual simulations and online curriculum materials such as reading assignments, pre- and post-simulation quizzes, documentation assignments, and guided reflection questions. When using the complete solution, the blended learning program enables students to develop critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills by a step-by-step process.
From this set, 10 out of 12 scenarios can be found in vSim® for Nursing Obstetric and five scenarios can be found in the vSim® for Nursing Maternity and Pediatric.
