The Neonatal Resuscitation Scenarios for SimNew B is a set of scenarios designed to teach neonatal resuscitation based on principles from the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 7th edition and in accordance with the 2015 AAP/AHA Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care of the Neonate.
The scenarios address major learning objectives geared toward initial steps of newborn care and neonatal resuscitation. They require learners to use and integrate cognitive, technical, and behavioral skills and provide an opportunity to practice newborn assessment and management, use critical thinking skills, and build teamwork and communication.
The set contains 11 scenarios for teaching and an additional scenario for introducing learners to the simulator and simulation strategies. The 11 scenarios for teaching are mapped to the lessons in the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, and range from a newborn that requires only basic routine care to a newborn that requires complex resuscitation, as well as a newborn that requires complex resuscitation in an end-of life scenario.
Each scenario includes a list of reflective questions and a section with clinical points to consider during simulation and debriefing. Based on the interventions that are logged by the instructor during simulation, the pre-programmed scenario file will also generate an annotated log file. Together, these features may help instructors to facilitate the debriefing session.
The pre-programmed scenario files are compatible with SimPad, SimPad PLUS, and LLEAP Automatic Mode and are made for use with the SimNewB simulator. The scenarios can also be used with SimPad Manual Mode, but more functionality will be available when using Automatic Mode.
