I am pleased to announce the establishment of Laerdal Global Health, a new company for helping developing countries significantly reduce infant, child and maternal mortality.
Building on the success of the Helping Babies Breathe and Helping Mothers Deliver initiatives, a goal for the new company will be to introduce 10-15 innovative products over the next 3 to 5 years focused on the needs of the mother and baby on the day of birth in low-resource settings.
The products will be culturally adapted, highly affordable, and simple and durable in use.
This goal will be pursued through a dedicated, lean and entrepreneurial organization working in active collaboration with important alliance partners. The new company will receive the required funding from Laerdal Medical AS for the first five years, with the intention of being self-sustaining therafter.
The logo of Laerdal Global Health will - for good reasons – look very similar to the well established “Good Samaritan” logo of Laerdal Medical. The differences are that the Good Samaritan and casualty will be replaced with a mother and a newborn, and the color of the background globe will be changed to green and yellow with a dash of red to symbolize the traffic light zones used in the action posters for the Helping Babies Breathe education programs.
